Exhausting…
May 18, 2007 | Leave a Comment
It’s been a long couple of weeks here in Fredericton and New Brunswick…we are still waiting to hear about what our new government plans for the immediate future in education circles in New Brunswick. Many of us who have poured heart and soul into the initial 1:1 programs are very worried that the laptops for students initiative will be folded up and set aside. The education plan was supposed to be out in April, but now has been delayed, again, until June. The only saving grace is that maybe, just maybe, some discussions have taken place and the 1:1 program is being (re)considered.
On top of that, one of the two school I work at has had some issues in the last bit to deal with.
Suffice it to say, two lockdowns for gun threats and an evacuation after a small “explosive device” was found in a students possession has everyone on edge. I have some good friends who teach there, and my initial 1:1 laptop class students are now freshmen there…so I am thinking about them a lot.
On top of all that, this is a long weekend in Canada, and a traditional weekend for my beautiful better half and I to get away and start our camping season. I love Fundy National Park (about 90 mins away) and we almost always get there this weekend…but the snow (yes…SNOW!) earlier this week and the continuing cold and wet weather has caused us to postpone our trip. Maybe we’ll have to pitch a tent in the garage!
